Student Health

Health Insurance

Health insurance is required for all students. Health and dental insurance are available at the time of registration. The university has selected United Healthcare as the provider for students. The university does not endorse or sponsor any dental plan.

Students who are covered by a US health insurance policy may waive insurance by completing the waiver form in CaneLink. The insurance company must prove that this policy provides benefits at least equal to those required by the University of Miami. Insurance cancellation must be renewed each fall semester via myUM.

PhD Students Only: Note that even though your insurance may be partially or fully covered, you must still register for insurance annually.

Anxiety, depression, low self–esteem, or undue anger can affect anyone. Sometimes these feelings are temporary and can be overcome using coping strategies like better sleep, relaxation, exercise, proper eating habits and the support of your friends. At other times, the stresses of life cannot be readily managed, and the feelings may become overwhelming. When this happens and you find it hard to function, you may want to seek professional help.

Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, located on the Medical Campus, offers students in need up to five free visits with a qualified psychiatrist.
