Qualifications


Applicants to the MS in Genomic Medicine program should be current MS1 students in the traditional MD curriculum at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Admission to the program is a competitive process and is based on the personal statement of interest, review of the previously submitted medical school application, and (in some cases) a personal interview. Competitive candidates will have a clearly articulated vision for how they will utilize genomic medicine training in their future careers, potentially supported by prior relevant research or clinical experience.

Online Application


We accept applications through the centralized application service AHCAS. All applicants must apply online through AHCAS. AHCAS charges $95. Verified students enrolled in UM’s MD Program who apply by November 1st will receive a refund of the $95 application fee to their student account by December 1st.

Transcripts


Enter your academic history in your online application. Official documents are not required as we will obtain a copy of your AMCAS application from Medical Admissions.

MCAT Scores


Enter your MCAT scores in your online application. Official documents are not required as we will obtain a copy of your AMCAS application from Medical Admissions.

Statement of Purpose and Objectives


Your personal essay is intended to give you the opportunity to submit a narrative discussing your past education, experience, and current professional career objectives. Your statement of purpose should describe your:

  • Reasons for interest in the MS in Genomic Medicine program
  • Career goals including how you hope to incorporate genomic medicine into your clinical career
  • Prior clinical or research experience in genetics and how this has shaped your interest in the MSGM program

Resume / Curriculum Vitae


All applicants must submit a complete, up-to-date resume / CV that includes all employment, research experience, community service, education and academic or professional honors. Be sure to detail all experience related to genomic medicine including research experience, training, education or other related qualifications with bulleted summaries.

Letters of Recommendation


Letters of Recommendation are not required for MS in Genomic Medicine applicants. In your online application, under Supporting Information then Evaluations, click the option to not submit evaluations.

Interviews


After initial committee review of complete applications, select applicants will be invited for interviews in early November.
