Introduction
The Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology (BMB) is dedicated to excellence in basic research and teaching. The department is operated in the Gautier Building, which is located in the Research Quadrangle at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine. The School of Medicine was established in 1952 and has undergone unparalleled growth as a major center for academic learning and scientific research, ranking among the top 50 U.S. medical centers in research funding. It includes several allied research institutions: The William L. McKnight Vision Research Institute of Bascom-Palmer, the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis, the Parkinson Research Institute, the Diabetes Research Institute, the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Research Center, the Mailman Child Development Center, and the VA Medical Center, making the School of Medicine one of the country's premier research and medical institutions. It is one of largest medical complexes in the United States and is located at the Civic Center, about 3 miles from downtown Miami. The medical campus is linked to the Coral Gables campus by the Metrorail transit system; and the train ride between the two campuses takes about 20 minutes.

The University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine has a centralized admissions point that allows students to explore multiple research areas of interest before deciding on a specific program to complete their dissertation work. All students are admitted to the Program in Biomedical Sciences (PIBS). If you are interested in our PhD Program in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, or any of the other PIBS disciplines (Cancer Biology, Microbiology & Immunology, Molecular Cell & Developmental Biology, Molecular & Cellular Pharmacology, Neuroscience, Physiology & Biophysics, or Human Genetics & Genomics), apply through the site. Applicants are encouraged to submit their applications by December 15th.  The Admissions Committee will review and make decisions on applications after this time.
